The presentation will develop the following issues :
What do we mean by open hardware / free hardware (definitions)?
What types of projects can be found (eg IP, processors, motherboards, ...)?
What are the technologies and licenses used in open hardware (eg CC, GPL, LGPL, ...)?
Can we identify success factors (eg interoperability), barriers (eg patents, NDA, ...), ...?
What are the communities and projects (eg OpenCollector, OpenCores, BeagleBoard, ...)?
Presentation of projects used in production (eg Gaisler LEON, Elphel 353, ...)?
What are the business models of companies active in the open hardware (eg Always Innovating, Elphel, Qi Hardware, ...)?
Civil Engineer and Teaching Assistant at the University of Mons (UMons, www.umons.ac.be) in the department of Economics and Management of Innovation, Robert Viseur takes part in the teaching of strategic marketing and innovation at the Faculty of Engineering of Mons (FPMs). His research, initiated under his doctoral thesis, concern the management of co-creation and, more specifically, the management of free and open source projects. Robert Viseur is also Senior Research Engineer for the Centre of Excellence in Information and Communication Technologies (CETIC www.cetic.be).
