The objective of this presentation will be to point out the benefits of using appropriate tools and following best practices for system administration : - installing software using packages (versus source tarballs) - using a build system to manage your packages repository and their build - using a centralized configuration management tool such as puppet or cfengine

All of those tools and best practices are based on free software tools and methodologies used in large-scale free software projects

Nicolas Vigier was working at Mandriva on research projects before working as an engineer and cofounder at hupstream. He is also cofounder of the Mageia project where he participates in the system administration team.
