Résumé

The scikit learn is a relatively young machine learning toolbox written in Python : the development only started at the beginning of 2010. In only a few years, the project has grown to a mature world wide opensource project : more than 50 developers have done non trivial contributions, 28 have contributed in the last 4 months and more than 44000 lines of code have been written.

Sharing the development and the sense of ownership of the code are key factor in the success of an open source project. Compared to other, very similar opensource projects, the scikit-learn has had a much more dynamic and communal development. In this presentation, I will discuss the technical and social decisions that seem to explain this dynamism : choices of objectives, technologies used, project managements tools, marketing.
