Starting a business is a business move (relatively) well-defined in a new world. We have chosen 4 years ago we start creating Normation with few certainties and unknowns embark on a confidential area (the IT infrastructure automation) and no prior experience of business management (we all engineers) is not necessarily an easy task.

This presentation will show the various stages of the creation of the company, from the desire to create a structure that looks like its founders, to Normation - an open source software company employing 8 people, with major customers in France and abroad .

We discuss the issues of time management and prioritization of tasks (developing the product, to trade and manage the team), and the various iterations to get an effective development process, a balance between people and how the choice a business model focused on open source is done.

Nicolas Charles is president and co-founder of Normation, publisher of the automation solution and continuous audits SI, Rudder. He is in charge of all administrative and accounting of the company and develops Scala (the language that needs no introduction) and CFEngine (automation configurations language). It supports the large gap between these areas through the satisfaction of learning every day (and some with beer, you can offer to further discuss the subject).
